There's mad good music out there...it's not on the radio. Tons of gems online....for next to nothing. What good is the radio these days?

But then again, listening to the radio for whats up with new music is soooooooooooooooooooooo 90s/early 00s.

BTW...Soul Chips #3 is done...IMO...this is the BEST one yet.

I've pretty much given up on new rap....

too many beats sound the same...either with the build a trap beat or the build a generic DJ mustard style beat. Lyrics non-existant.

I've been listening to older rap and hip-hop. I've personally admitted a while ago that I'm not feeling the new stuff and have gone back to my house music roots.

There are many reasons, but I would say the principal reasons are.....

The majority of new artists and musicians that are in popular (black) music are terrible because most of them barely studied their craft... hell most of them can barely read music or play an instrument, but you have people doing music that have no business doing so. People want to get in the quickest way possible. This is one of the reasons why non-black people(read... white) re-appropriate our music... Blues, Jazz, Rock, Hip-Hop, etc.... No more Jim Hendrix or Prince; no more Duke Ellington, Billy Mitchell or Jack Wilson. In fairness, the black community still has talented musicians and singers, but they don't receive as much praise or notoriety because they do it for the love of the art.

Re-appropriation is real. TPTB will make as much money off us as possible and claim anything we do as their own without an acknowledgement while writing our contributions out of history, but that's nothing new.

We have no control over our industry... point blank, period.

when im in the gym i like putting on the biggie/big pun/jay z stations on pandora and just letting them rock, but thats about as much rap as i listen to. im very much into spanish music now and anything latin jazz related. a little bit of rock classics too and even some sinatra and dean martin here n there. of course some motown too..i still listen to i wish it would rain by the temptations like every other day.

to listen to bobby shmurda instead of that stuff should be a punishable offense.

Maybe in rap but not other genres.

That taylor swift is proving that you can still break records in this Era and give classic music, arguably. Even though it's for young girls.

Unpopular opinion...but I'll say it.

America has the WORST music fans. PERIOD.

I don't necessarily agree, but I see why one would think such. If the music was collectively better, say like from the 80's and 90's at least, then I think sales and the perception of the quality of music the industry is putting out would be better.

I'll also side with the artists. Piracy is a problem. Charging 16-20 is(edit: was)a problem too.

I think it's because the music doesn't matter anymore. And piracy is the number on issue.

I remember being 18 years old 12 years ago....working shytty jobs just to spend $200 on house and techno records...meeting other DJs and producers at the record store. The record store wasn't just a place to buy music, it was a meeting place. There was a community there.

Now, that's gone. And that culture behind music is slowly but surely dying. Kids don't care about music like we did prior. No one cares about cover art (and so much terrible cover art has been made in the past 5 years), the music is good...but nothing to captivate myself to listen to it week later. Everything comes and goes. It's fast food music.

Yeah, it doesn't matter no more.... there are a lot less music lovers and lot more music makers... and a lot of video gamers too...

Fast food music.

I remember 10 years ago 'label experts'. Said that this was the future of music. They were right and probably lost a whole bunch of $$ doing so.

I guess the benefit is future stars will have tons of opportunity for corporate sponsorship.

For sure.

That's how I thought when I was 20. At 30 I know I can please both ends. Granted my track record much more developed and my mind is closer to becoming a responsible father than a teen in angst.

Plus it has always been my goal to be stupid rich. Just didn't realize the moral dilemmas that come along with it.
