The players he posted took two steps as they ended their dribble, he took 3 or 4. And unlike them he was moving away from the basket that's getting called every time.

On top of all that I don't see how on earth that's a viable move in game.

All that just to set up an off balance fadeaway one legged three that will be contested?

This is kinda dope. Even though it may not technically be a travel I guess, the optics will get it called every time.

But viable or not, I still find it interesting to see him bend the rules like that.

I notice one common theme with what he teaches is knowing the rules more than the defense does.

A defense may think they have you cornered, but if you know the rules you can shake free if they've anticipated you have one less step than you really do.

However, the ref would have to know and react to the rules with the same interpretation. If they don't recognize that initial stutter step as the gather step then that's going to be a travel.

This dude does what refs do for star nba players...they just give a real loose interpretation of what the "gather" step is...

Of course you can get away with 4 and 5 steps if the refs feel your father step was your 2nd or 3rd real step...

Video 1- Once again he's moving AWAY from the basket taking all them gather steps. That's getting called every time. You usually have to establish full momentum towards the basket with at least two big strides first before they let you get that many gather steps off, like Gianni's did. You need to give the refs a reason to gather other than "I just want to create space".

Video 2- I almost gave it to him but in real time he took 3 pivot steps before throwing that ball up. That's also getting called every time. His foot is way too close to the ground for anyone to let him have that outside of a slo mo camera.

I get what he's trying to prove, If something looks odd it's not automatically a violation, refereeing 101. I would have liked to see better examples though.
