Burton bat films were dark because he was influenced by the writing that batman was getting in the late 70s and 80s. Batman was written much darker than he was in the 60s lol. Btw batman returns was rated pg13 so its on the parents if they wanted to bring their 6 year old child to watch it.

But you know...Batman Returns was more disturbing.
Honestly, the only scene that disturbed me when I went to see BR in theaters was when Catwoman woke up from being pushed out the window.
