Don't own a home yet, but don't have that much debt either (only owe like 6K on student loans) and have well over 32K in savings.

Usually not as long as you are not upside down.

Since if you own you get all appreciation and with the primary homeowner exception after the fees for selling a house. You don’t pay taxes on 250k if what you pay is your single and 599k if you are married
