Pure gamers aren't the only consumers Microsoft are targeting. Microsoft have shifted they're target audience to general tech enthusiasts and casual gamers (casual games will provide a huge market share for Microsoft, ill explain why below).
As much as yall think the kenect 2 was a bad idea because of the inflationary effect it had on the consoles price, I think its probably one of the best long term decisions Microsoft has ever made. First and foremost the kenect 2 possess immersive technology that no other consoles have, not even the Wii U. Kenect 2 will increase the immersivness of casual games like dance revolution and other family/casual titles tremendously. Games like these amass huge markets and xbox one will be the only console delivering the highest quality entertainment in that regards. What you're going to see is the dance revolution/family game audience gravitate primarily to Microsoft which will boost Microsoft sales tremendously and is in fact why I believe Microsoft made the Kenect 2 such an integral part of their machine. Lastly, the kenect 2 is a cutting edge piece of hardware, so you can bet a stack that general tech enthusiasts everywhere will purchase the xbox 1 for that alone.
I know the xbox 1 has issues regarding used games, drm .e.t.c. but if we looks at games like sims city it is evident that gamers in general will purchase a product regardless of its restrictions if they deem its inherent functionality valuable enough. Im sure the same will happen for xbox 1 once kenetic 2 makes its unrealized impact. My point is the sales competition is far, far, far from over. With that being said, i am neither a family gamer, a general tech enthusiast, nor do i like kenetic games, so I'll be buying the ps4 day one and perhaps the xbox one later.
