Because a new IP on it's own wouldn't sell. It would just be another multiplayer game in a slew of weak ass multiplayer games. But if you attach it to another successful game as an add-on then maybe it has more of a chance. This is what happens when great isn't good enough. NBA 2K is one of the handful of live service games that make more money than the law should allow. But the corporate overlords must see more profit and more growth even when there is none to be had. So you end up with this bullshyt.

Damn. I remember how mind blowing the OG NFL2K and NBA2K for the Dreamcast were back in the day. This mode's just going to split the player base plus it looks like hot garbage.
