The Media scene in V is for Vendetta is the clue
What the fukk are you talking about man? What kind of an idiot would trade a race of people for material possessions? Grow up.
I remember a science fiction story where a human dentist was traded for the equivalent of a diamond big as the Ritz. The funny part of it was that the material possessions he was traded for were the equivalent of manure or scabs or sweat for the beings who produced them. But the rest of the galaxy was fighting wars over it, it was so valuable, and the creatures were the only ones who could produce it. It would be like having a creature who could shyt dilithium crystals in the star trek universe. Or like Saudi desert dwellers suddenly becoming princes and world shakers because everyone wants that worthless black oil they're sitting on.
I hope someone else remembers that story, it's ooooooooooooold. And it's not the only story which dealt with it. ((That wasn't even the moral of the story. The moral dealt with how the rich don't have to change themselves (in this case, eat right), because they're rich enough to deal with consequences (in this case, tooth decay and root canals)... and won't listen to those who know better precisely because it's easier to buy you're way out of doing what you want to do, than it is to curb your urges and not get into trouble in the first place. Did I mention that the human dentist was bought off an alien with whom he had more of a employer-employee relationship instead of master-slave, and that the dentist was appalled at how quickly he was sold out by his employer?))
((Or that the creatures he was sold to were bigger than Cthulhu, and he almost died trying to clean their teeth in the first place because he was ant sized compared to them?))
