This is why em never gets better nobody admits when he makes horrible music so he can never improve.
I agree with not liking Em fans who try to force themselves to like stuff.
But I don't agree with your statement there.
As far as never improving, I mean he was in his prime from 97-03, you really can't improve after that, you either stay the same or regress (like most rappers do). Although I do think this most recent album took some steps forward in some areas - his delivery is the most normal it has been in a while, and it feels like there's more substance/character to a number of these tracks compared to what was on Relapse/Recovery. He didn't seem to have too many corny punchlines in comparison to Recovery either. Unfortunately there are some bad tracks and styles that were steps backwards too (I personally think the country sounding beats and horrible production on a few tracks was a step back, I also thought the singing in STIW was a step back).
As far as nobody ever admitting when he makes bad music - he seemed to catch a lot of flack for Relapse and the accents (which in retrospect may not have been completely justified imo since Relapse had some bright spots), and he obviously heard it. He also obviously heard the complaints about Recovery being too mainstream/pop - and I think he was able to get away from that kind of sound with MMLP2.
Also I think part of the problem with Recovery and Hell The Sequel was that they were rushed.
Relapse - May 15, 2009 / Refill - Dec 21, 2009 / He said in May that he was scraping Relapse 2
Recovery - June 18, 2010
Hell: The Sequel - June 14, 2011
He basically only took a year to make Recovery and HTS. In the past he was able to get away with putting out albums/songs nonstop and the quality didn't suffer, but I don't think that's something he can do anymore.
