Nah, MMA dude knew exactly what he was doing. He didn't have any hands to worry about whatsoever with dude, he just stalked him down and cut him off till he backed himself into the vehicle. Easy takedown.
Strikers should NEVER let wrestlers close the distance, and if you do, you'd better have a clinch of point to throw strikes real quick to either go for the KO, or hurt dude enough to where you can create space. I don't care how good at boxing you are, if you go against someone who is even somewhat skilled at both wrestling AND boxing, you are in for some shyt. This is why Bruce Lee stressed people must become well rounded and not limit ones self to one style.
If a boxer goes against someone cross trained in boxing AND grappling, the cross trained guy will always have the advantage because the dude who only knows boxing alone will not only have to deal with hands, but also takedowns, and he's in for a world of trouble if the guy knows how to easily transition and feint by setting up his takedowns with his boxing
Come in throwing blows, feint real quick then shoot a single/double as they prepare to defend/counter

Feint shooting a double to throw that overhand right

....and that's only a couple options.
