African joints are not that popular here in NYC unless they're in Harlem and BX with heavy concentrations of their own communities. Not to mention he would've been losing money the first couple years in restaurant business anyway.


But I still feel bad for him regardless, this is still the practice of many older Africans(heck, my dad didn't even have his own debit card until 10 years ago) so I'm not suprised he had bags of cash on hand. But his mistake was not realizing that does NOT work in America, especially in NYC. And most importantly, do not even trust your own relatives with that kind of money either.

Your Dad may not have had a debit card but I doubt he would be recklessly walk outside solo with 190k. The first thing African parents thought us was to stay alert in the street and mind our business. I don't know what he was doing. Maybe he was trying to start a business, maybe he was dirty and involved with one of block crews in The Bronx. Ether way he wasn't moving smart which led to him being a victim. He should be lucky they didn't kill him because there is rarely honor among thieves when it comes to the ghetto.
