He wanted to open a restaurant in Midtown Manhattan I heard. Good luck with that for him, I don't know if it would've been a success.

African joints are not that popular here in NYC unless they're in Harlem and BX with heavy concentrations of their own communities. Not to mention he would've been losing money the first couple years in restaurant business anyway.

But I still feel bad for him regardless, this is still the practice of many older Africans(heck, my dad didn't even have his own debit card until 10 years ago) so I'm not suprised he had bags of cash on hand. But his mistake was not realizing that does NOT work in America, especially in NYC. And most importantly, do not even trust your own relatives with that kind of money either.

i refuse to believe Africans are running carrying $100s of thousnads of dollars cash in bags in front of everyone:stopitslime:
Yep, no way you are crossing customs with that amount of cash without being confiscated. If you got that type of money I will assume you have a car to make multiple trips stacking them in a book bag or make one big trip with two 50lb bags like going back to Africa with your family behind while waiting on uber. Anyway the story doesn’t add up and I doubt any African with 190K will be dumb to walk solo nonchalantly. He looks like a shady dude to me hiding money from family.

By far the most bizarre and interesting story thus far. An African brother walking around with 200k in trash bags :wow:

We need a Frontline/Vice special on that alone.

Lies... His home in Guinea cost 200k us dollars? (Lie #1)

I'm assuming he didn't actually bring that money to the US in a bag...

So what bank was like yeah here's your 200k sir... (#2)

And nikkas just hit the lottery with this random robbery? No gun? (#3)

fukk outta here...
Like I said you can’t bring that amount of money in cash to America without declaring it or wired through the bank especially coming from a poor country like Guinea. Secondly who takes money in laundry bag to go buy a business, this man was int to illegal business and got robbed for it. Coming from a drug dealing background he got off the hook with no guns involved.

Your Dad may not have had a debit card but I doubt he would be recklessly walk outside solo with 190k. The first thing African parents thought us was to stay alert in the street and mind our business. Anyway the whole story doesn’t make sense since people are not getting robbed frequently like the 90s. You got straight queers walking freely through Bronx hoods so again this couldn’t be a random robbery but an inside job.

A man from West Africa said he lost more than $190,000 he was planning to use to open a restaurant when muggers attacked him in a New York City apartment stairwell. Abdul Bah, 46, told News 4 New York he was leaving the walk-up in Claremont Village in the Bronx on Nov. 7 with a bag full of cash when the two muggers struck. He did his best to hold onto the money -- which he sold his property in his home country of Guinea to get -- but couldn't hold on. "Without the money, it's going to be hard to pay everything for the restaurant," he said. Surveillance footage from the attack shows one of the two attackers passing the man as if he were going up the stairs as the other hangs back at the bottom of the landing. Then, one of the men yanks Bah's arm and pulls him up the stairs.

:francis:

Walk around the streets of NY with $200K in your hands and expect not go get mugged , brehs

You can get robbed anywhere though. And with that amount on him? More than likely they knew. Reminds me of that episode of ray donovan where Bunchy carries his million dollars inside a diaper bag to the subway store that was being robbed. it just not street smart

The Truth
There's no such thing as victim blaming here

Yeah he shouldn't have gotten rob but what in your right mind makes you think carrying 200k, in cash, in the hood, without ANY protection is the smartest thing to do?

Reality is, people want what you earned the easy way... Whether its like this, armed robbery, scamming, marrying/divorcing, etc.

It's street smarts and common sense at this point... And it's reality

I don't know what he was doing. Maybe he was trying to start a business, maybe he was dirty and involved with one of block crews in The Bronx. Ether way he wasn't moving smart which led to him being a victim. He should be lucky they didn't kill him because there is rarely honor among thieves when it comes to the ghetto. It's unfortunate but he chose the wrong place to carry around that much cash.
