USA
Well, this is true.
In the US, we have superstar kids playing on the elite level in baseball, football, basketball and ice hockey. We could show video of kids batting, or throwing a football, or dunking a basketball or dekeing out a goalie at the junior high school age, but we have the coaches and mentoring needed to do that. We have crap for soccer. We do not have a strong coaching base in the US to develop superstars. We do have a small number of people who have gone on to professional soccer, but that number is really small.

NYC (but PGH will forever be home)
Who cares if we dont like soccer, or arent good at soccer?:mjlol:

Dont we as Americans agree that there are more important things than trying to 'be good' at a sport 90% of us could care less about?:mjlol:

Hell, Cricket players are some of the richest athletes in the world. Should we start a US Cricket academy? Start holding "Cricket Awareness" events?:mjlol:

As much as I hate the US national team and the joke of league known as the MLS, the country would fair a lot better in the sport if kids actually pursued it from a young age. Football is the main sport and is the most glamorized in media, next to basketball (go to any American sports site, magazine column, etc. and see which sports are covered first and most extensively then do the same for the rest of the world). Also, how can you expect any less if European, African, and South American countries practically have these kids from the jump; If there were football, basketball, etc. academies, those sports would definitely see an increase in the talent pool. There aren't any "farmhouses" in American sports where kids can have access to proper guidance, nutrition, training, etc until college.

The US soccer program actually OVERACHIEVES when you think about it.

Considering it's not the culturally dominant sport that it is to some of the countries we have actually beaten.

Also considering our talent isn't bread the same way theirs is at an early age.

I give Klinsmann props :salute:

We'll never be able to compete with the rest of the world in football, even if if NBA/NFL players were playing, the main reason is a difference in philosophy. These kids are signed by pro teams when they're between 8-11 years old in a lot of cases, they end up going to club youth academies and their profession is football before they even hit puberty. We'd still have the HS to College pipeline while the rest of the world functions on the idea that if you're good at something early on you should be trained like a pro.

Look at the video @BLAZO da GAWD posted, all those kids are signed to pro clubs and not one of them is even 12 years old. Just look at this shyt -

That's Real Madrid's youth academy.

Now imagine how much better NBA/NFL players would be if teams had youth teams and were signing players at like 10 years old and having them practice like professionals for the vast majority of their lives.

I see what you're saying but the MLS has youth academies as well. That's where Matt Miazga went and now he's getting looks from the Premier League, same with Jordan Morris from the Sounders. High school soccer doesn't have the prestige as high school football or high school baseball so I can see more and more players forgoing that to play in the youth academies. American youngsters just don't soccer seriously enough. It remains to be a hobby like ballerina is for girls.

Also it's not like we identify young talent and nurture it in soccer academies.

A kid could be a star and his coach is tommys dad who is an insurance adjustor who doesn't really know the sport
this is a flaw in the American sporting system, no? Its not efficient.
