an exclusive story from the first openly gay athlete? Which the president and multiple other major people commented on? It was a huge story. I'm not going to claim it was bigger than LeBron, but it was a HUGE story. In fact it was the last huge national sports story before today.

Exclusive doesn't equal sought after and build up.there was no "build up" to which direction Collins sexuality lies. There weren't reporters climbing over themselves trying to find out about Collins. Bron had that. No one sought news on Collins man. Not the same.

At one point late last year there was a plan for gay NFL players to come out together in a big story+press conference, but the story fell apart due to fear on the player's parts. Needless to say that would have been the biggest sports story in years. Instead SI managed to snag Collins; personally I still believe they were disappointed that they were essentially left with the worst option, since Collins is old and not a good player, whereas allegedly Pro Bowlers were involved in the NFL story.

If you can't admit that was a huge story that was indeed sought after by multiple news organizations then I don't know what to tell you. Both were huge stories, get over it. Not saying it's bigger than LeBron going home, I AGREE that's the bigger story since LeBron is LeBron and Collins...is Collins.

At least Michael Sam said he came out before the story somehow broke out of his controls. Collins was damn near retired, (probably would still be) and didn't share that fear. SI wasn't keeping something in the vault compared to the twitter intrigue tied to Bron.

Jenkins met with LeBron in Vegas tho. At the end of the day both stories managed to not leak thanks to the way SI handles things. Apparently only 6 people at SI knew about the LeBron thing, and I'd imagine similar caution was used for Collins. After all, if another outlet broke it first SI would be left with their dikk in their hands.
