It still wouldn't hurt to have someone look at it. You're in college right? if so go to your career center at school and have them see it or ask a professor in your major.
What kind of jobs have you had in the past and what are you looking for now? You may want to try to start your own little something in the mean time. I can drop some ideas if you tell me what kind of job you're looking for.
You could join the military
UPS is always hiring part time package loaders
Go to trade school and join the union
If you have a car, deliver some pizza or even if you have a bike try to collab with a few downtown restaurants and offer delivery service on a bike. Try to buy things wholesale and sell them on ebay or something. You definitely want to come up with something that can give you some flexible hours.I graduated last year with a BA in Media and Professional Communications.
The majority of the jobs I've had have been in radio, but with the way radio is now, I really don't want to do anything that isn't behind the scenes. Maybe satellite radio...but I've applied for those jobs and have never heard anything back. I would like to get into fashion and design related jobs, but most of what I can find are unpaid internships.
I'd just be happy washing dishes just to have something that generates some income ATM.
It's tough out here. I've had a LOT of disappointments over the last year in my search. Things haven't worked out for one reason or the next. I've had 5 years of work experience, 4 of which with direct/indirect experience in my trying to get into HR. In this time, my worst experiences -
1.) An upstart HR group that showed crazy interest, brought me in to meet with their people in a "non-traditional" setting to meet their staff. I was introduced to the HR manager by one of the people I spoke with at their get together that personally seemed impressed, gave me his business card, accepted a request on Linkedin, and overall gave nothing but vibes that it was a sure thing. Days later I received an email saying no one at the party could say anything "constructive" about me.
2.) After being contacted no more than 12 hours (I applied at night, got an email in the afternoon the following day) after I submitted an application at NYU, was advised they were closing the position I initially applied for but wanted me for something else and PUT MY APPLICATION IN FOR ME. I killed the interview and had more experience than the person that would've been my supervisor that was in the interview, had THEM email ME to say it was such a pleasure to have me come in, and worst of all, got a informal yes from them saying they were waiting on processing before giving an official yes....all that to be told they decided to hire someone internally that knew NYU better but wanted to keep me on file because of how much I impressed them. That shyt was in August and was some borderline traumatic shyt. It was a perfect position to learn general HR, paid me 10K more than I'm making now, with benefits and more importantly the opportunity to go for my MBA for free. I didn't look for jobs for a month after that shyt.
I've recently started looking again and haven't heard anything back, but you gotta keep going at it. This shyt is tough out here and no ones gonna give you shyt. I don't trust anything until my name is signed on a dotted line somewhere at this point. Just know that if you have the background something eventually will fall through. Once I get enough experience I ultimately intend on having my own and that's my motivation to get through this.
history majorWhat's your major?
What's your major?
I graduated with my Psych BA, which I was concerned would be a handicap for me going into HR but it's typically grabbed attention. The psych coupled with my managerial and recruitment background has typically fallen inline with the type of HR positions I've been going for and I intend on going back for my MBA in Industrial/Organizational Psych to raise my chances. Just never goes all the way.
1. Military may not "be for you", but neither is being broke. They'll get you experience and free money for college. For every 10 military personnel, 1 is on the battlefield and the other 9 are in support positions.Military= Definitely not for me and I would enlist when pigs fly.
UPS= I'd love to get a job at UPS at this point (I'm that desperate)...so I'll probably try applying there.
Trade school= should of done this in retrospect
ATL huhIn the same boat. Been unemployed since April
Had over ten interviews. Black mecca my ass.![]()

With the radio thing, you're going to have to get an upaid internnship to get your foot in the door more than likely. Did you do any interning during college? Perhaps reach out to them.
Don't waste your money. The Psych major is pretty weak. You'd be better off getting a HR certification http://www.hrci.org/ of some type. You could also take a management class. If you go with that major you're limiting yourself, imo.
Awful degree. I basically have the same thing. Media jobs don't pay shyt and the hours are terrible. I worked at a TV station and my sleep schedule was fukked up for years. I couldn't even sleep straight through the night on my off days.I graduated last year with a BA in Media and Professional Communications.
