See I was with you until you said Lil Baby bro lol, I know you don't believe that

Those others you mentioned are dope in their own right but didn't make the impact Kendrick did, although Tyler is in that conversation

Common is from a different era than everyone else you named so I'm not including him
Lil Baby is literally more creative than Kendrick.

Bruh. The new blackstar album was better than Kendrick’s last two albums. And way more political. Wtf are nikkas talking about?!

Generic BLM “cops hate us” raps ain’t cutting it.

Yeah Kendrick not being better than Lil Baby, Wale and 6lack is crazy lol.

Kendrick definitely better than them even if I probably listen to baby and 6lack way more. Wale complete trash tho.

We also need to attribute some of Kendrick's impact to Interscope. He's the second biggest artist there after Em and we all seen how they move.
Do y’all work for the label? Oh. Right. Like k thought. More sales talk.

Listen. People LISTEN to these artists y’all claim he’s better then.

I feel like people didn't listen to the album if they came away from it thinking Kendrick is buying into his own hype and becoming more pretentious. There's literally a song on the album where he talks about not being anyone's savior, and then the album ends with him saying that he was busy saving himself. "Like me when I'm pro black/But I'm more Kodak Black" was a line he said. I'm pretty sure he hates that people look at him as this godlike intellectual when he's spent the last couple years figuring his life out like the rest of us have.
Yea but acknowledging it doesn't mean he didn't still participate.

Kendrick is a lot like Jordan Peele. After Get Out Peele was thrust into this role of being the voice of horror/black social dynamics/allegory, the new Hitchcock, and so on. Peele openly rejected a lot of the claims thrown on him but he also definitely leaned into and embraced some of that shyt:russ:

Kendrick post TPAB has had the exact same trajectory. He'll say he's not all of these things, but the grandiosity of his work from TPAB on show traces of him still playing up some of the meta. Hell you could argue that his "Aw shucks I'm nobody special" energy is a part of the act

To be clear I'm not even saying it's bad to be artistic or play up concepts. I think hip hop has always lacked for conceptual works so Kendrick is doing a good thing overall. But when you look at TPAB and DAMN, the artistry worked in tandem with the music. Even if you found those works pretentious the music itself could stand alone in filling basic hip hop requirements. This shyt is about bass and bars at the end of the day

With Mr Morale the balance is off because it leans heavy on the artistry while the music is not carrying it's weight. It makes shyt like the Kodak Black line look more contradictory because you're screaming "I'm not this pretentious, pro black emissary y'all think I am" on the most pretentious project of your career:russ:

Nobody listening to Wale man. Baby, sure, he's most likely streaming better than Kendrick. My Turn still charting.
