I grew up in the early 1980s in Jersey... a 200k house was suburban and upper middle class

Some people don't realize there is a HUGE difference in home prices depending on where you live.

I grew up in a $55,000 crib in the 1980s and we were lower middle class but we weren't poor. $200,000 homes were awe-inspiring to me.

Then when we moved to LA it woulda cost $500,000 to buy a lot of the same size as our former home's lot even if the building on the property was condemned.


My sister pulled a small but fine home in Lincoln for just $32,000 about 15 years ago. Same time my wife and I were paying $300,000+ for a fukking 2BR condo near Compton.

The property is in a heavy tourist area. It's about location not just the size of the house. 200K where they live means you have a house that needs to be torn down. also having a high value for a small house doesn't mean you are irresponsible, it means you stand to make a tidy profit when you sell. My grandpa built the house himself back in the 40s and passed it down. They didn't buy it for 800k, thats how much it's worth now.

And 800k for that crib, no matter where its at... unless that shyt is on a beach... don't seem like a good investment.
