This plane could cross the Atlantic in 3.5 hours. Why did it fail?

the skeptics guide to the universe podcast talked about this in their most recent
episode #629. basically the faster you go the less efficient fuel consumption becomes.
even traditional airliners do not flay at top speed because they take into account the cost of fuel in regard to speed.

too bad we dont have power sources that can propel jet planes without the fuel.... :beli:

But humanity is too greedy, corrupt and fighting each other to push new technologies to make this happen.

my mothers' last 6 flights to Jamaica have been taking an hour less time I've noticed but I'm guessing weather conditions

Well that and the Concorde was cramped inside and loud as shyt on the inside and outside. There's but so many places you can repeatedly break the sound barrier without driving people crazy.

Airlines also only put the bare minimum of fuel in planes with a small contingency for emergencies to save weight and increase economy. You can be flying virtually on fumes and not realize it.

When the weather is bad they speed up or change the route a little, at least that's my experience
