a "dev kit" is supposed to be something for actual developers. it's not priced for consumers

Oculus Rift did things differently, because before being bought by Facebook, they needed to make money. they basically sold the majority of their "dev kits" to consumers that have no interest in developing video games

the Hololens is also a stand alone device that doesn't require a console or PC

Augmented reality with the 3ds was incredible to me. Watching a hole appear on my table and a dragon pop out of it is still dope. This has serious potential....but again...I approach these new peripherals with caution. I just get the feeling that all these headsets will come out and the games will be mediocre compared to normal TV games and they will just collect dust in the end.
