The Jazz were up 3-2 though. Even if the Rockets win that game I don’t know if they could have went to Utah and won a game 7.

I was rooting for Barkley because I wanted to see that Barkley/Jordan rematch. But at the end of the day the Jazz were just better

Breh I to this day say that rockets team was too top heavy. They had drexler, hakeem and barkley. But had trash like matt maloney running the point.

Stockton toyed with that bum the whole series. Hell in that final game 6. Stockton had 26 points and maloney was 0 for 6.......yes 0 for 6...:francis:.

Remember maloney became the starter that year after the rockets released kenny smith.:francis:

The rockets were trying to do the PG by committee thing....but that shyt was trash. They even had brent price on the team.

The difference was Stockton, don't mean that just because of the gamewinner, but because he completely destroyed the white bum playing PG for the Rockets during the whole series...Hard to play winning basketball when you are getting nothing from your point guard on the offensive end and he is also being cooked on D

Truth.....I posted the same thing and didn't see your comment.

Funny you say that.....in the finals of that same year. Rodman live on camera in an interview says that he can't get in sync because all these fukking mormons out here in Utah....:dead:.

Rodman would later apologize and Stern would fine him 50k. At the time the largest fine in the history of the NBA.

Why was he released, was his knees acting up?

Man my memory is fuzzy on that one. But if I remember correctly it was a money move and they wanted to get younger pgs. Management also wanted to get younger and have more depth because the sonics swept them the year before and they had no answer for payton and kemp (one of the reasons barkley was brought in).

The thing is all that depth at pg didnt work. Brent Price was injury prone. Randy livingston was garbage and so was matt maloney. All those dudes could do was bring the ball up the court. They could not run offense or hit big shots like kenny.

Even though kenny wasn't the greatest PG. He didnt make mistakes and would knock down big shots when you needed it.

That shyt will sink you. Pretty sure the only exception in the last ten years was Derek Fisher in 2010, and even then he had one big fourth quarter to steal a game that series.

At the time, as a kid, I remember being heart broken that the team got split. We had up & coming Cassell & Horry that were two of the biggest diamonds in rough a team could want. Then for Dawson to go all in for an old Barkley. Getting Barkely, set the Rockets up for rebuild mode for 7 years until the T-Mac trade.

& that shot still haunts me. I'll give Chuck credit that season though, he wanted it bad.

The back & forth between the Rockets, Jazz, Spurs, & Sonics was war during the 90s. People have overlooked how hard those series were fought. Both the East & West were pretty evenly matched. It looks like we're finally getting that balance back with all the young stars.

Yep that is so true on everything you said. Getting rid of smith, horry and cassell was tough because outside of drexler and mario......those were your clutch shooters. I mean cassell, horry and smith made soooooo many clutch shots in that 2 championship run. I don't think I have ever seen a group of players make that many clutch shots for a team in a 2 year span

And even though they went all in with barkley his body was breaking down at that point. He had hip and knee problems and missed like 20 games that year.

And yes that western conference was a war. Utah ended up beating the rockets 3-2 in the first round the next year 1998 (as the rockets did to them in 1995). I think that was clides last year and then houston traded for Pip.

That Malone screen though :picard:

I remember being in Target and seeing this on all the TV's live :heh:
I was at that damned game and all I saw was Karl Malone bear hugging Drexler right in front of the ref. I'm still pissed about this 20 years later! This is why Rockets fans STILL hate the Jazz.
