Kick Push was a dope song but if we are being real, skating didn't catch on like that among urban youth as a result of that song. I'd say skating really started being trendy around 2010.

I agree and disagree

Kick push didn't make hood nikkas want to be skaters but it was the song that introduced the idea to hood nikkas who previously didn't even think about it

that's a fair analysis :ehh:

but you forgetting that Pharrell and his crew were repping skateboards waay before Lupe. He was just more low key with it and even still, NERD wasn't a cool band to listen to, not if you were black.

yea skating was definitely still corny as fukk when Lupe released that song. it's not like you'd see nikkas walking around with skateboards and wearing skater gear, just wasn't happening.

cali nikkas are definitely the ones who brought the skating wave to urban america and beyond though. the pack, new boyz, odd future, etc.

Stevie williams showed hood dudes how to skateboard. Hes from Philly. Owns dgk and asphalt yacht club. Moved to san fran at 15 and was couch surfing/homeless trying to make it. Kareem cambell as well. Ray barbee too. Pioneers for black skaters. Now they have antwaun dixon, ishod wair, terry Kennedy leading the way.

Before all the songs shown or mentioned....the first rap video I can ever remember that actually featured skateboarders prominently...

GZA ft ODB - "Crash Your Crew" .... released in 2002....but album it was on, Beneath the Surface, was released in 1999...so I feel like the video came out before 2002, but :patrice:
