Great post.

Once you sell out you never stop selling out. I know he was a starving artist at the time, but he chose to stand on principle.
If you notice , Poitier stepped away from the film industry for years, probably because of the same attitudes.
I was just having a convo with one of my side pieces .. I said "can you think of one black actor who didn't take on a demeaning or degrading role to make it big in hollywood." We struggled trying to think of at least 3. Denzel is the only one.

If you think of every successful black hollywood star... they had to do some degrading shyt on camera first before making it.

Look at John Boyega... having to play a space slave. Is success worth it at that cost?

shyt is sad.

thread took a weird turn

Slave is a strong word, I don't watch star wars films but what about the role makes that character a slave?

and did you think that when you saw the film or after a yter said it?

Breh.. when I saw the trailer.. and I saw a black man running and sweating... immediately I thought "oh boy... here we go." I knew they were practically make him a eunuch. The same with the movie "Hancock". If it's a white female lead and a black make lead in a big movie. ... they try their best to eradicate any sexual contact between the two. Always.

And no I'm far from a PAWGer but you can't ignore these patterns. They made John's character weak throughout the first film. They couldn't have a strong black man saving a fictional galaxy. He played second fiddle to a white woman throughout the trilogy. They couldn't even give him a proper love interest. They should've just made him non-binary.

weak secondary character = slave?

This is why I asked whether it was something you concluded yourself.
