I remember hearing they backed off after making those statements (I could be wrong about that though), but the fact they even commented in the first place showed that even they're disturbed by these idiots
They probably put out that statement to make it seem like they don't condone it and minimize some of the backlash over the whole Open Carry movement. Which explains why they apologized quickly afterwards.

I'm not personally a big fan of open carry, but it's their right. Most of these open carry nuts are autistic weirdos though. Concealed carry rights should be expanded though
