1. The cost of Bernie Sanders free tuition plan at public universities: $70 Billion a year.
2. The cost of Ted Cruz increasing military spending to 4% of GDP, up from 3.2% last year: $135 Billion a year.

Ted Cruz Calls for Return to Bush-Era Military Spending

Don't tell me we can't afford to provide free tuition because it's socialism. We have the money, we just choose to allocate it the way we do.

"Some seem to blithely assume that "the rich" can be taxed to pay for what they want -- as if "the rich" don't see what is coming and take their wealth elsewhere."

:mjpls:

And go where exactly?

We can't afford Bush era military spending either.

Plus that $70B is suspect. What year? The universities either have to be built or converted over which will cost money. Program will have to be phased in as well which will cost money. Not sure how he accounted for the high possibility that enrollment will go up which will also add to the cost, both due to higher interest and population growth. What about inflation? Will they trim the administration bloat at converted colleges? Etc etc.

People can follow proposals and studies. When it comes to shyt like this I wanna see all the math and be able to examine every source behind the assumptions as well as all the assumptions period. He hasnt covered all the bases on any of his plans IMO.

That's precisely why we need economic democracy. The ruling class gets rich off the the labor of the working class and then threatens to export those riches when the working class makes some social democratic demands.

The working class needs to cut out the middle man. :myman:

Why can't people pay for their own damn college education?

I took out a student loan, went to college, graduated and got a job, saved up money, and I just now finally paid off my student loan debt. Now you are telling me I have to start paying for other people's education as well? What about all the blue collar workers who choose not to go to college? Why should they have to pay for the college education of middle and upper class college students?

Why does college education need to be "free"?

:francis:

America would have to shut down at least more than half of those schools just to bolster them through taxes.

We have STATES with more colleges than Denmark :dead:

Smarten up.
So what?

Sowell said we can't possibly do it, you just said we could, but we have to shut down half the schools.

So you just proved my point, that Sowell was wrong in saying we couldn't possibly make school free.

Secondly, no shyt Denmark has less colleges than the United States. :mindblown:

I told my Dad, an educator his entire life, "This guy just tried to argue that America can't possibly have free education, because Denmark has less colleges than the United States" and he just laughed

That's your argument, breh. Think long and hard about it.

We pay taxes. We should have a say in how that money is allocated. Some of us are crazy enough to think an investment in our people is better than propping up an archaic and massive military industrial complex.

Cry about professors having to be raised/educated/fed/clothed as if all public employees dont brehs

This piece was simultaneously desperate and lazy

i have to agree, i was expecting more, picking on Venezuela is easy and free community college or free public colleges is very possible, its not exactly pie in the sky
