I always felt like this feud was kinda weird and just thrown together.

Austin had main evented WM 14, 15, 17(and tons of PPV's in between), and now he's being put in a mid-card match w/ Scott Hall. The match was 5th from last :scust:and took place before a Divas title match and a tag team title match....the definition of mid-card.

I guess the match itself wasn't too bad, I just didn't think their styles matched up well, & it's easily Austin's worst Wrestlemania match.

It just seems weird Austin was kinda lost in the shuffle at that time.

I've always heard that the initial thought was for Austin to face Hogan but there were various creative differences and it was settled on it being The Rock which was probably the best choice. I don't know what they would have done with The Rock, though. Honestly, I'm not sure they had a ton of ideas for WM X-8, It was a weird time. The InVasion was a failure and The Attitude Era was winding down, they brought in the nWo to as Vince would say "shake things up a bit!" but Nash couldn't stay healthy and Hall couldn't stay clean.

We did get a nice Hogan nostalgia run from it which I enjoyed because he wasn't too broken down yet. Limited yes, but he could still perform. His match the following year against Vince had no fukkin right to be good and it ended up being very good. A fukking bloodbath.

Very disappointing match and, yeah, Austin was just "there" during that time period. He bounced back and retired with a classic match the following WM :win:

I thought the match was good, but having Nash as backup only at Mania in case Hall fukked up was bad business. Rock/Hogan pretty much made the entire event forgettable, but this was a good match, if I remember.

I guess that would've made more sense.

The other thing was, we knew they were gonna pretty much bury the NWO anyway, so Hall wasn't really a threat to be a legit competitor to SCSA.

Didn't understand this feud when it happened and wasn't up on the backstage politics like I am now. Felt it was weird for Austin to not be in the main event or at least one of the last matches. But if they went with Hogan I wonder what they would have done with the Rock?

So much potential to make huge $$$ with the nwo run if they would've just held on a little longer....

Hollywood Hogan should've won the belt imagine him spray painting the wwe title nwo. :damn:

HBK returned shortly after could've done dx vs nwo :banderas:

Brock Lesnar was up and coming star dominating like Goldberg imagine a face Lesnar taking on Hollywood Hogan at Wrestlemania 19 in safeco field for the title :blessed:
