When pursuing "Life Purpose" one is "trying" to live. Yet living isn't something you "try" to do - you just do it. The moment you "try" you've lost it.
And yet here we are daily trying to live: we seek out entertainments and all kinds of stimulation. For some the idea of "LIVING ones LIFE" is precisley this: Seeking to accumulate many, so-called 'fun' experiences before their life line runs out.
Perhaps the purpose of human beings is.... to discover what it means to actually "live"?![]()
Interesting perspective. If a human's life purpose is to discover the meaning of life then it's a self-appointed purpose since humans have no greater function other than to survive.
Also, seeking the meaning of life goes against your earlier statement about living. If one stops living when they try then how can their purpose be to find the meaning of their existence? Are you trying to say that humans are designed not to live?
I'm in the middle of something at the moment but in short to give you a general ideal, come at this with a macro/micro approach...what are the purpose of cells within the body??? We are like cells, within this body (earth) we have free will within the parameters but just like certain cells make up certain body parts and functions we all have some sort of task. Just like cells can "choose" to be cancerous we can either choose to deviate from the task and be a detriment to the body, or learn to integrate and uphold the body. .
Survive, pass on your genes, teach your spawn what you've learnt, and live as long as possible. As the smartest animals we've simply invented the bonus of achieving life goals and intense materialism.
I do believe we are meant to sail amongst the stars one day though. Too bad I won't be there to see it.
As to whether or not we have a purpose? According to the laws of nature, we are simply the most intelligent, and therefore prosperous species on this planet and as such, we 'claim' this planet as our own, polluting and plundering it remorselessly.
I don't believe in any sort of higher being, as there are mountains of clear evidence that amply and irrefutably dispels this ludicrous notion.
I can't help but wonder what caused the first life forms to appear - the very first spark of life upon this rock. From minerals and gases and elements to thoroughly covering the Earth with endless species of flora and fauna.
There are no animals that can outsmart us. There are no aminals that have bent the earth's resources to our needs like us. There are no animals that have made such a irreversible mark upon the earth like us. Some are stronger, faster and more dangerous than us but we have the tools to defeat them in every category. Birds can fly? We have jets. Wolves, bears, lions and tigers have natural weapons? We have armored trucks and bullets that can shoot a hole through an elephant. Our unique ability to think so creatively, solve problems, the creation of language, economy, politics, the internet, telecommunication, energy creation, etc, make us the true dominant species. No other animal can rule his pride with such a strong arm. Our ability to create and improve upon technology to suit our needs only solidifies this fact.I'm not sure that we are the smartest 'animals' on the planet... What is it that makes us so 'smart'?
I think we have certain capacities to be smarter, but are we necessarily using those capacities in a smart manner is another question...

I mean look at the smartphone. It's a little chemically powered device that can access all the knowledge mankind has ever researched, discovered and proved. We are a wonderful force of innovation. The internet itself is another astounding invention.
.
then again, i may be confusing being SMART with being WISE - we are mostly not wiseI feel you. But i wonder if all that you've mentioned about the human species is precisley why we ARENT as smart as other creatures - more clever, devious, ambitious, reckless, full of desire and raising hell on earth with pollution and evironmental destruction - indeed we are. But smarter? is questionable in my opinion..
Perhaps the other animals, such as dolphins are smarter for the fact that they arent behaving like us. For one, they arent "RULING THEIR PRIDE WITH A STRONG ARM" and developing tools to "DEFEAT other species IN EVERY CATAGORY". Also they too have a language & a mode of communication thats stunning! They have no need for things like the internet or a smart phone... again, the fact that we have those things and in a way now NEED those things may be testimony as to why we arent as smart as we think. Who cares that we can create those gadgets... it doesnt mean we are smarter.
As to your point of solving problems --- Human beings probably create 85 - 100% of their problems - WE sure as hell Better develope ways to solve them.. and yet we seldom do. If we do, they are at the expense of creating an even larger problem. I'm not conviced that we are effective at solving problems (look at congress (joke)).
Yes. We do indeed have the capacity for creative innovation...but are we using this capacity in a smart manner? it is still questionable.
Im reminded of a quote from the movie (THE MATRIX): "I’d like to share a revelation that I’ve had, during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you aren’t actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with its surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply, and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we... are the cure." - AGENT SMITH
