Definitely says a lot.
I was reading alot of buildings were before they made the building code more tight in the late 90s.

Lax building codes known in TURKEY

ISTANBUL (AP) — Turkey has for years tempted fate by not enforcing modern construction codes while allowing — and in some cases, encouraging — a real estate boom in earthquake-prone areas, experts say.

The lax enforcement, which experts in geology and engineering have long warned about, is gaining renewed scrutiny in the aftermath of this week’s devastating earthquakes, which flattened thousands of buildings and killed more than 23,000 people across Turkey and Syria

Majority muslim country..what do you expect..people feel strongly about their faith I guess.

But damn..just paint over the logo or some shyt or hand them out to the people who aren't over zealous religious.
drinking is not super taboo there like that. most of the turks i know drink a lot and Efes for example is a turkish company. AFAD doing this is probably just because the government is AKP and the other parties will criticize them for it before the elections.

They’re saying this could hit north of 180,000 as there are still over 150,000 people missing and their chances of survival are slim at this point of the rescue operation.

If it does hit these numbers, we’re looking at numbers like the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami which killed 230,000 people. Those a wild numbers and pretty fukking grim :sadcam:

The tsunami was a learning experience and basically the first of its kind, but to think that the death toll here could have been significantly lessened if it wasn’t for corruption and incompetence angers me. Entrusting hundreds of thousands to millions of lives to people who only care about enriching themselves and innocent people pay with their lives when they fukk up.

When the ground is moving like liquid, no building ever built can stand up to it. Just like judgement day, man won't be able to stop it. That's just how it goes. Get right with GOD.
