Brehs who are in NY try OneUnited online. Hopefully with these new members who joined up with Citizens trust Bank in Georgia and Alabama it helps them expand to more states. If Citizens Trust expands to NY and thousands sign up like they did in Atlanta then its a wrap. I just hope we dont gotta see videos on CNN of corny white hipsters signing up to a Black bank :beli:

Yes i know your gonna say we can be black owned and still serve everybody and its foolish to turn down money...and i agree...not saying not to....its just gonna look strange to see white hipsters trying to rush into lines :scust:

One of the most effective tactics of white supremacy is keeping black self esteem and pride low. They don't want us to be a prideful and aware people . This is a result of our increased love of ourselves and each other. And also an increased interest in events of the past.

Imo the next big step for blackj people is more black owned media. Media propaganda has been extremely effective against us. Constantly seeing negative stereotypes and hearing poisonous messages over the airwaves has done a number on our own psyche and how we feel about ourselves and each other. We definantly need more positive images of ourselves and a broader range of alternatives for the youth. The rapper and athlete ain't gonna cut it going forward.

It had only been mostly Black/Urban/Hip-Hop websites that had been reporting this story until yesterday afternoon when USA Today dropped this article:

 The comments section in that article. I've notice any comments section that uses Facebook comments is automatically trash.

these ppl are so miserable and threatened by black people.

most whites do not want to see black empowerment, no matter how "liberal" they claim they are.

No one is saying for you not to invest in ma and pa shops, but they should NOT be the main focus. To be honest most young blacks my age would try to get their bachelors and make more than ma and pa shop owners. I'm essentially saying is that black people should go for bigger standards. To me this need for more ma and pa shops seems to stem from ego or trying to feel better and be like the "other" minorities who have ma and pa shops in their communities. Seriously this is annoying and overrated. There are PLENTY of black owned ma and pa shops. I don't know why blacks around the net feel like black owned business in general is such a rare thing...

In my area there is a town called "Hillcrest" which used to be apart of my town. Its majority black(more so than my town which has a large Hispanic population) and there are a lot of black owned ma and pa shops around. Especially this small market which everyone in the town goes to. Hell in my own town there is a TON of Haitian owned restaurant. But anyways the black owned ma and pa shops in Hillcrest and my town are nothing home to write about. So again I don't understand why people act like ma and pa shops are so rare.

What black people need is to get into more financial based careers(that can be our new skill or "niche") and keep doing this, creating more black owned banks and blacks supporting these banks. Ma and Pa shops are "nice" on a small level(they still are not exempt from gentrification and distributors can stop supplying them), but I want to think BIG TIME for blacks. Enough of this small time talking. What the people in Atlanta are doing is BIG TIME, and when I mean big time I mean like @CashmereEsquire once stated competing globally, opening banks(like what the blacks in the article are doing), acquiring skills to compete globally, building Infrastructure like schools, creating global companies, etc.

I'm not trying to trash ma and pa shops or say blacks should not invest them, but I just wanna get us away from all this small time talk.

Thanks.

But Asians did not face white supremacy like us and second those rich Asians we see are due to them already having a financial base back home. I know this because an Indian himself told. This is why I say it is unrealistic for blacks to emulate Asians and their Chinatown.

Yeah, ATL probably has the most black businesses in America in relation to size (NYC has most but in comparison to the size of NYC It doesn't make a huge dent). But many of these businesses are more so small self run-- self employed spots compared to businesses that can provide employment to an entire community like when say a Walmart opens up in a neighborhood.

says that you can open one up even if you live out of state.

Um...do you guys research this stuff?

Leonard L. Abess
Leonard Abess is an American banker and businessman. He sold his own company, City National Bank of Florida, for $1.2 billion and gave his staff a bonus. He shared $60 million between them.

Yes I know this guy below is the current CEO and Chairman:

But when we are looking for BLACK BANKS lets have them be FOUNDED by Black people AND MANAGED BY BLACK PEOPLE...AND EMPLOY BLACK PEOPLE.

Not one of the three...2 out of three...all of them.

lol that cac ceo is from a different city national bank. the sister actually mentioned it in the video.

BANK HISTORY
City National Bank started in 1971 when a group of African-American community leaders recognized a tremendous economic void in Newark, the largest urban center in New Jersey. They believed Newark needed a financial institution that would be sensitive to the financial needs of minority residents whose access to credit and banking services was historically limited. Charles L. Whigham, a prominent local businessman, spearheaded a grassroots effort to raise capital.

Walking door-to-door, the founders met with church groups, individuals and various organizations to sell stock in the bank. In less than two years, $1.2 million was raised when nearly 1,800 shareholders purchased 60,000 shares. In 1973, City National Bank of New Jersey was established as a full-service commercial bank.

In the following decades, City National Bank's mission grew, expanding beyond the Newark roots to include Harlem and Brooklyn. Even as the bank continued to meet growth objectives, City National Bank maintained a steadfast commitment to better serve the needs of families, non-profit organizations, faith-based institutions, and businesses with the various service communities.

Part of the consistency and forward progress can be attributed to leadership stability. In 40 years, City National Bank has had only three president/CEOs: Charles L. Whigham (1973-1989), Louis E. Prezeau (1989-2011), and Preston D. Pinkett III, who today leads City National Bank to a new era in true community banking.

I'm not skeptical of black people, that's something white people do, so you suspect right now
Oh so capitalistic greed doesn't happen with black people.. You know how stupid you sound right now? :mjlol: Anyone can take advantage of your pockets just by being blank and creating the facade that they're helping you.

If you don't trust Banks, open an account with a Credit Union instead.

If you don't know what the difference between a Bank & a Credit Union is, here's a wikipedia link: Credit union - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thanks for directing me to a better option. I admit that I don't know much about how these things work. I see people in my area protesting their local credit union every day.
