One thing we need desperately is supermarkets. For some reason even when compared to Banks, supermarket chains is the one thing we lack. I do know there is one well known one in Atlanta that @bdizzle mentioned last year but i forgot the name of it. Can you remind me? We can say the same thing...that we are gonna permanently stop shopping at Stop and Shop and Whole Foods.

People go to the supermarket daily even more than the bank....this could put a dent in them even more.

Edit: its Wayfield Foods right?

Next step is we need to throw support behind our black colleges and universities. We need to help the be prominent and attract our youth.

It's going to have to be a complete lifestyle change.

I don't want this to be like loosing weight and New Year's:

People get excited, take a few steps, and then after thirty days completely forget about it.

There will be times when motivation is low and frustration is fierce but, have to keep on pushing through.

So, it's going to be very important to have a plan with a focus on big wins and detail steps to take along the way.

Eventually, I hope the people signing up will one day take the initiative to get a loan to fund a business or even their children's education.

It has to be more than just "Well, I opened a checking account, I did my part" and then forget the rest.

We don't have a citizens bank in the bay :mjcry:

Just sign up for OneUnited online. One thing that annoys me is how Citizens Trust has a cac on the Board of Directors.

I'm with this more than protesting and marching.

Hurt their pockets.

Black enterprise is the way.

Pool that money and strength together. Fukk a cac
Fuking with someone's money is the quickest way to get theit attention. The boycott of the bus system in Alabama in the 60's showed us that.

Also, there is no shame in taking baby steps.

If you can't switch to one of these banks 100%, do this instead:

  • Keep your current bank account for convenience
  • Open a new account with one of the ones that offer online options
  • Stack at least 10% per pay check into your new account
  • Once you get to the position you need to be in to make that 100%, make it happen
Of course, even with your new accounts, maintain financial responsibility and don't hurt your own chances at economic success.

This very important!!! You have to be in the mindset of think black first. I'm in NOLA, and it's very easy to support black owned, some places not so much.

Starting businesses is the key. 5 years ago if you would have told me I would have two LLCs I would have laughed, but here I am.....it can be done but it won't be easy.

Fast food joints and grocery stores that lack in healthy options are purposely placed in majority Black communities (Fixing obesity runs deeper than "eat less calories and move more").

It's time to get voting power and political power at the local and state level.

I'm in North Carolina and our Governor just passed a law that keeps video of police body cams hidden from public view. This is the same Governor that passed a law restricting food stamps to able bodied adults while completely ignoring how complicated it is to get a job in rural North Carolina.

I know a lot of people were in praise of McCrory passing that HB2 law on banning transgenders from bathrooms of their chosen sex but, people don't realize that was the Trojan horse. Within that same bill was laws preventing people in North Carolina taking cases of racial discrimination to the state level and preventing towns/cities setting higher minimum wage.

I live in a county that is majority Black (87%) but, don't no one run shyt. On top of that, they barely go out there to voice their opinion, vote in local elections, and do what they have to do to make sure their community is on top. Trying to get my people around here to change our actions for the better is like trying to get a three day constipated shyt out. It's like they are in a dazed, zombie state. So much non-nonchalance and an "it is what it is" attitude.

We (My county) are below the poverty line, jobs are scarce (and pay is crappy), the schools are iffy, and the STD rate is HIGH.

I mean damn, if time and money can be found for other things, it can be found for important shyt like this.

Then again, I gotta remind myself to keep patience and that not everybody can be saved.

Being active in local politics is also very important. More important that national elections, especially this cycle.

Now we just need our people to open more businesses!
Let's keep the momentum going, family!

:blessed:

If y'all haven't checked out Black business directories, I strongly urge you to (just google it)
.
I started ordering from Freedom Paper (Freedom Paper Company LLC – Bathroom Tissue – Socially Responsible Business – Freedom! What You Deserve.) after I heard about them on the Zo What show.
Also, I'm about to get my laundry detergent from this company: True Laundry Detergent (@thetrueproducts) • Instagram photos and videos too.

Basically, the shyt that you buy anyway just buy it from our people which keeps the Black dollar circulating.
Like the above links, something as simple as toilet paper and laundry detergent is a great start.

No, I want to see a another black wall street or more "Atlanta's and DC's" around the USA and not a black versions of Chinatown. We should not wanna emulate Chinatown... Why do people constantly overrate Chinatown when discussing topics revolving around black economics? In my honest opinion black Atlanta is doing much better than Chinatowns.

Also we should go beyond silly ma and pa shops.
Most large organisations of today started off as ma and pa shops.
