Duckworth is a direct benefactor of the whole friendly rapper movement.

He owes Cole for giving him his most renouned song hiii power. Obv they were friendly enough to do this together.

He owes drake for taking him out on tour to his first big audiences and helping him break to a new audience by having his own song on Drake album plus t-minus drake producer for his major hit swimming pool.

Somewhere along the line he got the idea that competition is healthy which I agree BUT it is a snake move to start on that path once u have used these rapper friends to elevate your career. I like competition in hip hop but I also see a hypocrisy in the way this all played out. He wasn't saying any of this when he was getting looks from said rap friends, the timing smacks of selfishness. He don't care cuz he on not because he cares so much for rap.

The problem with the OP which is the problem with the current climate of hip hop and why it sucks is due to the fact they don't know nor honor its own history and culture. This buddy-buddy rap shyt is really fucckin' up the hunger for emcees to put out their best. Muthafucckaz putting out half-ass rhymes just to get by. Then in comes an actual LYRICIST who is equally popular as these half-ass rhymers, but have the mentality of a real emcee. A real emcee ALWAYS have the attitude that no matter what booth, what studio, what stage, what location, and who he or she are with, that they WILL be "that" n*gga when it's all said and done. They will let their peoples around know that they're going to be "the one" and it is the duty of the other emcees to PROVE it otherwise. It's all about challenging n*ggaz to put their best foot in at all times, because there's that next n*gga that want that top spot and will take it from you. This brings the BEST out of hip hop overall. This why he had great music back in the day, because that was the mentality of an EMCEE!

In this day and age you don't have that. These rappers ought to be THANKING Kendrick for giving them motivation to give it their all to prove that n*gga that he's not the best out running, but unfortunately they're don't comprehend what real emceeing about that someone like "I read from a Blackberry-freestyle" Drake feels salty. They do not understand and are disrespecting the CRAFT. A REAL MC go out there at all times believing that nobody can fucck with him and dare anyone regardless who it is, friend or not, to say otherwise.

All those n*ggaz on TDE have that mentality and if you look at their own interviews, they will say that about their own homie that'll kill'em on wax. That's precisely why they're the dopest group out right now, because of that determination to try to outshine each other. But the rest of the rap game don't have that same mentality.

you missed the point of the whole movement...
and don't try to put Cole's name on here, nobody cares about this guy

You know you can be cool with each other, hop on other people songs but still want to out rap the other person.

basically this. Hip hop has always been like that but some ppl here were born in the 90's
