I'm used to Korean reality shows being hella friendly...come to find out, MNET just dropped the most ruthless dance competition show I've ever seen :mjlol:

They got 6 teams of 8 women, repping different countries. They all watch each other's auditions and rate the other dancers. Then they all get packed in a room and watch each other's evaluations, where the girls are talking madd shyt about each other.

THEN, they have the girls put stickers on each other for who they think they can beat in a one-on-one battle. Then they got callouts and straight-up battles.

This the cattiest shyt I've seen in my life. They primed these chicks to hate each other! The battles are actually pretty damned heated, and they legit got some street dance and choreography top-tiers in this ish. America sent one of the girls from the Olympic breakdancing competition (also a World Champion B-girl).

Hyperknife is the one

The lead Park Eun-Bin put on an amazing performance. If you watched Attorney Woo you would be shocked about the performance she put on here. I've seen her in other stuff but nothing this dark and was caught off guard. The story itself is interesting and I love how dissect the main characters and what their motivations are and how they became the person they are in the present. Not to spoil anything but this show reminds me of Hannibal and Dexter where you have the student and teacher and what the student learns from the teacher and why they are the way they are. Thought the show did good job of connecting the past to the present and why Se-Ok is the way she is and you see how cruel of a teacher she had and how it shaped her .

I didn't think the show was going to go where it went and I was happy it did because it made for a compelling show. The side characters are interesting, but I felt the show was def more about the 2 leads and the 2 leads were fantastic. The pacing for the show was great and it didn't feel like it overstayed it's welcome. I feel that's an issue with many kdramas is where they don't know where to land and I thought the show landed at a great spot.

If you're going to check out this show make sure to watch the credits. This show is def a kdrama of the year contender for me. One thing I like about kdramas on disney + it really seems like they give them a nice budget to put in work.

I would rate 9/10

I've seen some clips of this show and they can be ruthless. I remember a kpop idol tried to be on this show and she wasn't on par with the other dancers and made her cry

That's wild. That girl was literally the best dancer on an old season of Produce 101 (the season that pumped out a bunch of the top idols of this current generation btw, including the girl on Squid Games). But that's all choreography, a freestyle battle is just waaaay different, and especially when they have specialists at every style.

This season, everyone is bullying a girl who got on the show because her only bonafides are that she's popular on TikTok. Literally every team just laughed at that shyt, and the first girl who got a chance called her out and COOKED her.

Like...you know this girl is doomed when You Can't Touch This is her choice of song :mjlol: .

I think it's the common case that idol dancers and singers usually don't stack up well against trained dancers and singers. Skill level wise idols aren't trained to excel in performance areas which is why Lee Chaeyeon who is one of the best idol dancers didn't stand a chance on that show. Whoever told her to join, set her up because it's clear when watching the battles she doesn't have the body movement and control of trained dancers on that show. There are a few dancers better than her, but they still would get destroyed on that show.

Idols seem to me like jacks of all trades, masters of none. They have the basics down for a lot of styles, but there's no deeper bag. They move from style to style for each new album and image. Their dances are usually simplified for fans to impersonate and do TikTok challenges and stuff like that.

The only idol I'd be curious to watch in a battle show would be Lisa. I doubt she could hold it down, but I've also never seen anyone pick up choreography faster, and the BP girls know performance. So I'd be curious to see how she'd look if she got to go second against someone with deep technique in a single style.

I think she would do better, but the dancers that do that for a living will still beat her. I think dancing is def something where there's a pretty big gap between real dancers. It's similar to pop music over here where there's a gap between artist and dancers. I think singing is something where gap may not be as big. The master of none aspect of groups is why many of them venture into acting or influencer because they use it as a stepping stone. Kim Sejeong who is a good actor was an idol first, but seemed to use that as a stepping stone for an acting career. She's a good singer and def one of the better singer but knows there's more of a future in acting.

Yeah, there are many that use it as a stepping stone to get into acting. Some of the idol turned actors aren't that great of an actor. I know she's popular but Bae Suzy def seems she should be much better for the roles that she gets.
