Influential? Yes, but not Top 3. There's several more influential groups than Three Six. They helped pioneer trap and crunk, but by the time both became mainstream, Three Six were still being slept on and slighted in that regard. I mean, yeah, they should get credit as pioneers, but as far as taking it mainstream, there's several artists who played a role in it. Even now, when propping up Three Six, the rest of the '90's Memphis scene is overlooked. Eightball & MJG are possibly more responsible for taking those sounds mainstream as they even had the impact and influence even when they were underground.
in 2016 this is maybe a pasable post but in near 2022 you realize 3-6 prolly the most influential group ever post 80s

Gross exaggeration. In real time, they weeee struggling to go gold. Even in the region, they were not as successful as the UGK, Eight and MJG, Goodie Mob and of course Outkast.

Yeah they influenced Crunk, but Crunk wasn’t that big itself. Lil Jon was a local nikka for a long time. Crunk was turn up music. It wasn’t taken seriously like that.

The answer is still no. And the reason why is because a lot of what ya'll credit Three Six with didn't come from them at least not exclusively. And the biggest reason is because there's still other artists and groups far more influential. Look at NWA, there's a direct influence on Hip Hop and if you removed them from Hip Hop, EVERYTHING changes. Same goes for A Tribe Called Quest and that's just based off the whole Native Tongues movement which reached every region and STILL has reach both during their run and even now. That's not even counting Run DMC or Public Enemy.

Even Down South, look at Geto Boys. They are easily the most influential Southern Hip Hop group.

If we make this about the 90's, Three Six is sharing influence with other Memphis groups. There's Bone. Again, The Booth only sees influence as sound-a-likes and clones. If that were the case, Pastor Troy is one of the most influential artists ever considering the clones he had and what he did with the ad-libs.

If you're saying trap producers were influenced by Memphis producers, I have no argument. But that's not what I was responding to, and you know it.

They were influenced directly by Three Six, it's come out of their own mouths. Nobody is remaking Tommy Wright III songs in 2021.
