LCSO: Assault suspect threw feces, attacked deputies
A 54-year-old Fort Collins man is accused of attacking the deputies who arrested him on an assault charge and causing a disturbance at the Larimer County Jail.
Charles Kettering was arrested the night of March 8 under the suspicion of assaulting a woman at a home in the 3600 block of Crescent Drive.
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office says Kettering rammed his head against the inside of the patrol vehicle multiple times while he was taken to jail, and resisted deputies when he got out of the patrol car – kicking one in the leg.
This prompted deputies to handcuff him. When he was moved to a booking cell and they were removed, police say Kettering kicked a deputy in the shin.
He then urinated on the cell floor, according to the LCSO, and threw his own feces on the cell window. Police say he then broke the fire suppression sprinkler head from the ceiling, causing water to flood the booking area.
The Special Emergency Response Team was then called in to handle him, because deputies were unsure if he had any pieces of the broken sprinkler that he could use as a weapon, the LSCO says.
When SERT opened his cell door, the LCSO says Kettering rushed toward them. This prompted authorities to subdue him with a stun gun, and place him in restraints.
Kettering faces charges for assault, criminal tampering, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, criminal mischief, harassment, possession of drug paraphernalia and domestic violence.
He is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.
