I think Ras got caught up trying to add too much of a street element into his music
and kind of lost his identity as an emcee in the process

And to me he had the perfect balance of streets, politics, social commentary, bytches, music, religion on this album. He did it better than anyone else imo

Slick line and I agree with the premise....but that doesn't make Soul On Ice any less of an album. Theres a number of artists who never matched their first album.

Souls on Ice does not get the credit it deserves. Ras Kass being signed to a West Coast label sure didn't help the promotional marketing for the Souls on Ice album situation either. If Priority Records didn't pull the plug on releasing both of his classic albums there's no telling where he would be today in his career.
