You mean the scrutiny he actually faced in real time and still gets brought up 20 years later :russ:

Yea, in real time Kobe was ridiculed heavily for how that series ended. The "he quit in game 7" was nasty work

I feel like ppl must've been too young to have actually watched the series if they didn't think Kobe was goin through some toxic shyt up until the '08 Finals run, or really the '09 and '10 championships

Also, i said this years back but going from best of 5 to best of 7 really fukked up some herculean/legacy carry-jobs by superstar players.

T-Mac went up 3-1 vs DET the year they changed the rule. Then a few years later was Kobe's 3-1 vs PHX.

It'd be like if Mike had to win another game vs Cleveland after that game 5 game winner on the road. Maybe he still does, but we've seen it's tough to win 4 as the under dog.

the lakers were clearly never in that game 7. they had that series won in game 6 when nash missed the open corner 3, but odom didnt block out marion then when marion gets the offensive rebound with just under 11 seconds remaining and has to turn away from the basket as he secures the ball that should be an automatic take foul. lakers arent in the penalty at that point but you then make them inbound the ball against your set defense where the smart decision is to try and foul before they get off a 3. no guarantee that the suns still dont send it to overtime, but two huge fukkups by odom that led to that tim thomas 3 pointer.

kobe deserves his criticism even though the lakers were essentially done at that point because they couldnt stop the suns, but they had their chance to win the series and when they let it slip through their fingers the better team dominated them in overtime to send it to game 7 and then finish the series off at home.
