Chavez I was agnostic on but I really wanted Hefner gone. Good. Situational pitching needs to be a priority. You gotta be able to throw a fastball over the plate on command and not blame your 'mechanics'. WTF?!
I guess when he gets another job all the pitching lab stuff will be co-opted but it wasn't going to remain a secret forever.

When you go cold for long stretches and your pitching is a disaster for three months, after overachieving for the first two months, heads are bound to roll. I’m fine with these changes plus keeping Mendy for another year.

Hopefully Stearns and co can bring in some impactful replacements.

Let's see if all that prospect hugging works out. McLean is probably the only true untouchable on the list. Throw in major league talent like Vientos and McNeil and they have plenty of pieces for a deal.

I'd throw Benge (and possibly Jett) in that untouchable list.. depending on who we can bring back. We have more than enough young, controllable ML talent to move with some prospects to bring in difference makers.

I don't want to give Pete 7 years to see him at butcher plays at 1st in his late 30s. Only way I'm giving Pete 7 is if he's a full time DH for the last 4 years.

I also can't believe Chavez tried to change Soto early in the season. They should have fired him before the All Star break. I gotta give Chavez credit. It's one thing to mess up Alvarez, but it's another thing to do it to a future Hall of Famer.

Pete smoking dust. No matter hard you try, you're not going to make up what you lost by not taking that offer in '23.

Offer him 3, or 4 years max. If he declines it. Figure out Soto's protection somewhere else

I am going to make a prediction on our FA position player signings:
Brandon Lowe
Ryan O'Hearn
Ramón Laureano

I think they pull off a trade to get a SP of some note.

It's only money. He's not Japanese so I'm sure he'll have no problem taking record money to pitch in Queens.

I’m all for Skubal in Queens, but if the rumored 400m are true, ima have to pass.

And since he’s in the last year of his contract, and we can prepare a solid ass package for him.. I’m not giving up 6-7 top 10 prospects (like I’m reading)

I’d probably max out at a Vientos, Tong, Jett OR Benge, (forgot our 1st baseman’s name that’s close to MLB ready) and another guy like Mauricio or Acuña.

Another thing that raised my eyebrow. In game 5 of the division series he promptly left game as soon as he reached 100 pitches.

Unfortunately that's just the way they manage these days. I would prefer that they trade for him only if he agrees to an extension. The contract numbers might be stupid, but Vientos, Tong and Jett might get it done. That should also leave plenty left over to make a run for Skenes if the pirates cash in

Close to 0% chance of that happening. He’s represented by Boras, and Boras ALWAYS wants to hit free agency.
