Basically, like i been telling you the shyt is an EC centric view of illmatic, not because the album is good, but because the EC sucked donkey balls at the time. Which you agreed when you stated that EC albums werent selling then (even though some were, illmatic wasnt selling). Then it talks about some weak ass KONY shyt. Again no one cares. Album art? No one cares. Premo production. No one cares. He used words like "illmatic". no one cares.

So the next slide is about referencing street legends. I can't say for sure that Nas was the first to do this, but even if he was, its a big of a stretch to say that this led to magazines like Feds. I think you could argue it was a precursor to mafioso rap - but that's a stretch as well.

referencing street legends doesnt make you a great rapper... or an album good.
E40 creates a lot of slang that has a FAR greater impact on hip hop than referencing street legends (that again, no one outside of that area knew about). Did they do an article about how E40 changed hip hop?

And naS didnt go "mafioso" until IWW. Which is AFTER



I just am not seeing anywhere where illmatic influenced hip hop.

I get the comparison becuz they about equal in length....personally I think Thug Life is a classic,they both got about 4 or 5 classic records and other records that are great for different reasons depending on what u lookin for at the time.....illmatic has records great for the lyrical display,thug life has great songs of that hard/real shyt.....and the crazy thing is Thug Life wuznt released as Pac intended....imagine Thug Life,Out On Bail,Runnin From The Police on this album.

Johnny J....that's nother thing imo the production is better on Thug Life is underated,how is it not at least equal to Illmatics production,imo it sounds better and less dated now....I loved Pacs flow on this album,i he showed alotta different looks flow wise in his career but his style on this album is my favorite and wish he woulda used it more then he did later on....one of tthe greatest rhyme styles ever on this album
