Tical 2000 was the closest to a 5 star meth album we had

The skits don't bother me as that was a sign of the times. Bloated Tracklists, big budget videos, wild cover art, over the top skits. That was the wave for mainstream rap in the late 90s. Everything was pure excess - especially coming out of Def Jam

The music was just alright. Some bangers on that album sure, but the Wu sound was a bit scattered back then. You felt it on releases like this, as well as Deck and U-God's albums. RZA was on some other shyt and production sensibilities were changing. Supreme Clientele was a hit because it fully committed to a sound and aesthetic. It was a statement

Meth is a great artist but he never gave us a classic album. After 97 or so, the game had changed. Redman gave us 3 classics out the gate but then his albums Docs Da Name and onwards felt victim to the same shyt Tical 2 did... Bloated, excessive, gimmicky

421 is a fine method man album but i struggle to say its better than the t2 work or even tical

Fall out prod by kwame is my fav track from both tho. One of the few mid 00s tracks to get og meth energy right

It had gems

Got to have it
Say
Presidential mc
Etc

Missing some key pieces tho. Who im iz was supposed to be first single and then abandoned. Still think it works as a better intro tracks then the ones following the rza intro.

And i really like MEF from the swarm 3. Coulra fit in here nicely. As well as the string of math solos on his albums, whose next, the tyrese scott storch track. I enjoy meth around this time still.

Tho just off not being as dark as T2 was (minus presidential mc), shaolin what, torture, killig fields> most the 421 tracks.

Tho 421 is the best balance of that commercial and wu energy meth ever had. If that means anything. It totally suceeded there where t2 failed.

Tical 0 is really the meth album that is the most underappreciated and forgotten. It had like 6 slamming songs cut and a buncha bullshyt on it. Used meths lead single for a videogame and then only put it on for japan (uh huh). The jlove/9th wonder remixes help save that one as well from being a complete bomb.

I made a playlist of this last month without the skits, and there's only a couple skippers. Album's a banger. So much doper than it got credit for. Even without the skits it's a little bit long but there's a ton of classic material on here.

Might be my favorite Meth album, to be honest. Tical's still probably better, but not by as much as I used to think

Tical is still his best album, and even that fell short back in '94.

By the time he reached the second album, he just seemed unfocused. When he got with Red for Blackout, there was more energy and life to his flow and rhymes. But honestly, Mef still hasn't given us the album that matches his potential and talent level.

Kwame is a gift

Wish he never saw the evils of the industry so early and kept his creative fire

I always loved this album. Outside of the skits, there's no real skits. The crossover joints like Make Ups to Break Ups are nice, and there's some serious top tier production from the Wu-Elements on here.

Definitely Meth's best. The first Tical album might be the most overrated Wu album. People give it automatic classic status because it's in that first run of Wu releases, but it really ain't all that (and no, i don't want to hear about them flood excuses)

My own tracklist for this album…

Perfect World
Cradle Rock
Dangerous Ground
Sweet Love
Shaolin What
Torture
Party Crasher
Elements
Killin’ Fields
Spazzola
Step By Step
Retro Godfather
Grid Iron Rap

That’s a 46 minute length album. Cuts all the filler. Great listen.

Doubters should make up a playlist with this tracklist and feed back.

And these are pretty much the only songs I listen too. Matter of fact, they're the exact songs I listen to, except for Retro Godfather. It's grown on me, but it's still out of place...and close the album with Killin Fields
