I'm seeing more website bashing about what Tidal is doing than any other music service. When was the last time someone posted a headline about Google Music, Apple Music or Spotify. It's like a weekly occurrence on sites like The Verge for example. I really think they are trying to push a black owned service out.
It really is at this point.
:francis:

It's disgusting.

250 mill seems very possible considering that it was a tidal exclusive for quite some time. Songs like Adele's Hello were available on a ton of other mediums (Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Google Play, Rhapsody, Amazon mp3, etc.) so it's understandable that it took 2 weeks to rack up a couple hundred million views on Youtube which is only one of the numerous platforms it was available on. Kanye is one of the biggest artist in the world and has one of the biggest hypebeast fanbases in the world also so I don't find it hard to believe that they would sign up for a service just to hear his album. Especially considering the fact that there's tons of people out there who would pay over a thousand dollars for a pair of his shoes. Nice try at tryna downsize his accomplishments, but :camby: #BlackExcellence

You would rather pay money to Tim Cook to wipe his boyfriend's ass instead?

The numbers were probably boosted. But, people boost numbers for artists like Adele and 1Direction on sites like YouTube, Twitter, etc. to make them seem important/universally loved. It's all a game. Good on Ye for getting in on it.

I'm just curious as to why they're using the 3 million paid subscribers number as their denominator when you could stream it without being one.

Wouldn't they need to know how how people signed up for the free trial?

Numbers are probably faked, Jay-Z is still stuck in the Def Jam era where he can't accept a bad first week so they'll buy units to prop it up.

- That's why he did the Samsung deal for MC:HG to hedge against a quiet week (in retro, the album did fine)
- It's why he did a similar deal to try and shade Rihanna's first week (in retro, she actually needed it)
- It's why he probably pushed for Tidal exclusive on TLOP to get some new subscribers, but also control the narrative around the first week since Yeezus had a small opening week (in retro, he probably didn't need it since he just did 100k for TLOP on legit streams like a month after release)
