Even though Shaq's offensive skills don't compare to Duncan's, he was def. the better offensive player in his prime. I think Duncan changed games on the defensive end while still putting up his offensive numbers though. :manny:

So really, Shaq great offensively with solid defense. Duncan was solid offensively with great defense. It's close regardless. :yeshrug:

Duncan was not a "solid" offensive player. He was a GREAT offensive player. You couldnt say that about Shaq's defense in comparison to Duncan.

And lets keep in mind we're talking about their careers and not just their Primes.

Duncan definitely fell off for a bit there but not the extent that Shaq did.

I knew I'd get the :mjpls: the minute I hit "post." I'm a Spurs fan, so I remember Pop running that 4-down every play and Duncan putting in work. Shaq simply couldn't be stopped though. Trying to be unbiased, I'd say Shaq was the better offensive player just from a results standpoint, but Duncan got his as well.

It's close. I'd take Duncan simply for the better defense, strong offense and lack of ego.

who cares?

It matters when taking account greatest players at certain positions. Trivial rankings, but people do it.

And yes, Duncan is a center. People shift him to be a PF so they can move up to the top of certain lists. He's an all time great, and I don't think most people will doubt that he could also be a force at PF, but he's a center.

I wasnt arguing whether Shaq was the better offensive player. He was clearly the more effective.

I took umbrage by you calling Duncan a solid offensive player, lol.

Duncan isn't a center. He played PF in college, was drafted as a PF and has spent the majority of his career at the 4 spot. Hell for each of the Spurs 4 titles he never ever played center. People need to quit saying that he's a center. He's played power forward this entire season

Duncan really didnt start playing the 5 spot frequently until the 08-09 season. Spurs had no other bigs and Duncan had to slide over and play center.

Shaq was a great defender when he wanted to be.

See 2000 and 2001.

He had trouble with the pick n roll, but that was it.

At his peak Shaq was much more dominant than Duncan.
