It's instructional league. A guy I know played on the A's instructional league team right after he got drafted and they did some drill called "get ahead" or something like that where you had to throw a middle in fastball on the first pitch every at bat and then you could pitch for real. People were just sitting on it because they knew he had to throw it. The games mean nothing and they don't even necessarily keep score or play 3 out innings.
