You'd be surprised about the extent to which white people have no clue about the everyday effects of racial inequality. He mostly speaks to and targets white people as a white man. He's not the most sophisticated academic critic, but he does reach people who might not be reached by Black speakers. That being said, it's a niche- he found a way to make money on it.

I highly doubt his audience is all that different from someone who is Black saying the same thing, based on who I see cosigning him on tumblr,twitter,etc. If he was reaching a very wide and different audience that didn't have any prior engagement with what he was talking about my opinion would be different. But I guess my main beef is that he doesn't bring anything new to the table like academics who deal with race but are exploring new ideas as it relates to identity,gender roles, classism, economics, and internal community colorism among other things. There are so many academics I wish would get more attention but as you said he found his niche
