"Dirt Off Your Shoulder" is a bigger hit than anything The Neptunes or Just Blaze did for Jay Z. It was the biggest single from The Black Album as was "Big Pimpin" was the biggest single from Vol. 3. At the time, "Big Pimpin" was the second biggest single of Jay Z's career. Swizz has only produced two hit songs from Jay and neither of them were bigger than the Timbaland joints. Your only legit argument here is Kanye who produced Jay Z's second biggest single overall with "Run This Town" and him producing "Takeover" (not a hit, but that diss helped elevate Jay).

:rudy: you think Dirt Off My Shoulder was bigger than I Just Wanna Love U or Change Clothes?

in other words i've lost interest in the convo

instead of typing out 2 posts saying why you don't want to answer the question, you could've just typed a 2-word answer.:beli:

You're repeating yourself. I've already provided examples and you're still asking the question.

It was more than a vocal sample. The vocal sample isn't even Arabic, it's Japanese. The beat itself is Bhangra influenced. And all of those songs were popular.

J. Cole and Drake are the two biggest rappers of this generation. Who cares whether they are wack or not. That's a whole other discussion.

theyre just 2 of the most-pushed rappers. drake & cole aren't poppin like you think.

how is it more than a vocal sample? maybe I'm missing something, or thinking of the wrong songs. feel free to post the missy songs that youre referring to.

just because a song is a single getting spins, it doesn't necessarily mean that its popular.

Every rapper that has ever seen any semblance of mainstream success had a machine behind them that pushed them.

It is more than a vocal sample.

^^^ That sound that runs throughout the entire song is what I'm referring to.

If you got a song that's #1, it's getting spins

"Big Pimpin" and "Dirt Off Your Shoulders" were far bigger than those Swizz songs. "nikka What, nikka Who" is bigger than "Money, Cash, Hoes", and "Big Pimpin" is bigger than "Jigga My nikka". You can't run in here talking about being commercial and listing Swizz Beatz productions.

"Takeover" (basically Blueprint) album elevated Jay. That's really when he entered Top 3-5 discussions. Jay Z has had several instances where he became bigger either commercially or critically and sometimes both.

"Run This Town" is one of Jay Z's biggest songs.

Again, how am I wrong. You can't call someone wrong and then not provide the proof to back up what you're claiming. I don't post on emotion. If I post something I'm going to back it up. If I can't justify what I'm claiming. I gladly take the L and keep it moving.

dont remember, dont care to backtrack to find out either

don't worry. i'll do the backtracking for you.

heres the post right here:

1.Some nikkas have never put anyone on worth talking about
2.Don't have alot of hits
3.And never produced the lion's share of a classic album so naw they need not be placed at the top.

and I asked who you were referring to.

okay. I see. it still just influenced random commercial money grabs.

those songs were not bigger than those swizz joints. the problem is, you live hip-hop thru billboard stats.

swizz beatz productions at the time, were mostly streets. not commercial.

Money grabs or not, you asked for influence and I gave you examples. We could reduce some of the most influential songs and artists ever down to influencing random commercial money grabs for argument's sake. Furthermore, there's songs that were never singles that had that sound as well. What's funnier is that you were the one who brought up popularity, now you wanna cry that they were money grabs.

"nikka What, nikka Who" is bigger than "Money, Cash, Hoes". That song is as street as "Money, Cash" and "Jigga My nikka". Swizz Beatz even in '98 was still a commercial producer. I don't live Hip Hop through Billboard stats. I use stats to back up my opinions. Otherwise, I'd be out here passing off opinions as fact without any kind of validity to back it up.

popularity & money grabs aren't necessarily the same.

I didn't say "nikka what" wasn't street. but it wasn't poppin like those swizz tracks.

What happened before that?

nothing.

you threw that statement in out of nowhere.

that's why I asked, who you were referring to.

.......and now we're back to square one.

Not even trying to get into the debate regarding the recent Jay-Z discography in this thread, but anybody have the amount of listens on Tidal/Apple music for his songs by Just Blaze/Timbaland/Pharrell?
