Timbaland was at his best when the only time we heard from him was his production and his vocals on songs. Fame destroyed him. Once he reached the level of success as a solo artist globally after being featured on and producing/co-producing "SexyBack" and "Promiscuous" and then the success of Shock Value, he's struggled adjusting to not being "hot" or "relevant". He's moved sloppily, continues to make dumb moves like a newbie, and just all around seems lost. Its like he doesn't see the value or opportunity in the Timbaland brand without trying to clout chase or be the hot artist/producer with the youth.
Timbaland is one of the few producers who could be touring off his music. A Timbaland & Friends Tour featuring Ginuwine, Missy, Nelly Furtado, and Justin Timberlake would do numbers.
Besides Dre, Kanye, and Pharrell, Timbaland is the only other Hip Hop producer who could headline a Superbowl Half Time show.
He's missed opportunities. He was the music producer for the first season of Empire. Lee Daniels wanted Timbaland's own Opera Noire album to be THE music for that season. Timbaland declined and we got the songs that ended up in the show. Opera Noir still has no release date and Empire would've be the perfect vehicle to launch that album. That could've snowballed into Tink and his other former artists V Bozeman and Wynter Gordon releases.
