Nah, its the person's own hate for themselves that may drive them to only seek non-black partnership, At Times, not always.
there is this book called The Slave's War, it has a section where black slaves recourt a black former slave who married a freedman. She would go out of her way to beat her own black slaves, who were often the freedman's relatives he purchased to get out of the hands of whites. Then when the man moved to liberia, she cried about wanting to go back to the US so she could be around the white people, because she was scared of blacks.

That woman strikes me as the spiritual mother of Sage Steele. Just a black woman who has internalized black inferiority to the point she hates herself subconsciously.
