No one is saying that you CAN'T hire a DC head coach but with your second year qb it would be helpful have continuity there because the QB is the most important position in sports. If the OC coach is well the whole front office failed, If your defense is great but your qb or scheme is ass you will eventually get exposed and lose in hilarious fashion like the texans just did.

Its also much easier to ascertain a terrible offensive mind, dc hc and blame the oc, qb, kick the can down the road until people get tired of their shyt. OC who aint got it get out the paint quick, you can't waste the rookie qb window.

You look over at Vrabel, a former LB and DC, and he's had success in two different spots now. And that's with 3 or 4 different OC's he's had to run through. You look over at Seattle in the NFC, with Macdonald (a Def guru), who's already had to experience an OC change within 1-2 years of him having the job.

Yes, it would be nice to have a Ben Johnson, McVay, Shanahan or Payton, but it's not the end all be all. Cincinnati having a Diet McVay with Joe Burrow and Chase shows you that's not the only thing in the world that's gonna save you. Look how fast that shyt cratered in Miami with McDaniel even though that was pose to be Tua's stability and guiding hand.

They should’ve fired Bowles and promoted coen. He was the best HC on the staff. Same thing with Canales.

Bowles is a defensive coach whose defense gets destroyed versus QBs with a pulse and he don’t know shyt about offense.

Canales and Coen lost in the wildcard just like Bowles did. We don't know how good they'll be going forward especially since they don't have elite QB's. They both could be gone in a few seasons.

Matt LeFleur can't get his teams over the hump and is bad in big moments.

KOC is getting carried by Flores and botched the QB position.

McDaniel failed in Miami.

Stefanski's offenses have been bad for years.

Callahan was trash.

It's an oversimplification to think OC to HC equals success. You need a good front office. You need a good HC with good coordinators plus special teams. Then you need a good roster. You're missing any of these parts and it's the same story of coaches getting fired at seasons end.

If the best coach available is a DC then so be it because you're going to need all the other parts anyway.

That's true what I don't understand about defensive coaches they always want to play ball control low turnovers need to have Cam cut it loose. Guarantee they take a defensive player first.
