This is ridiculous. A picture of a noose has nothing to do with race, any more than the electric chair or lethal injection or the firing squad is tied to race. The overwhelming majority of people hanged in history, both in the U.S. and worldwide, were not black.

What's next -- claiming that references to guns or the police on T-shirts evoke killings of unarmed black males like Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin?

In my opinion, the worst journalists are the ones who are exclusively trained to understand and to discuss a single issue, such as race or gender. When your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. When all you think about is race, every problem in the world looks like racism -- even the ones that have nothing intrinsically to do with race.

Actually, when I first saw the shirt, I thought the humor was a bit dark; but I assumed it was making a stupidly cynical comment about suicide, not race.

Personally I can't bring myself to be offended by this, though I can see how some would be... Thing is, black people aren't the the first/only/majority of people nooses were used on.. There was a time when hanging was a legit punishment and still is today in some parts of the world.... I find it more insensitive to people affected by suicide.

Idk why but this comment made me think of something like @TheNigerian

Would say
A Backcountry customer, WhoDat, posted this review on Dec. 16, 2014:

Ive gotten mixed reactions to this shirt. Ive had a guy accuse this shirt of having some racist agenda behind it. Ive had one person complain that it promotes violence. Just, be warned about the audience when you wear it, is what Im saying.

Im a fan of graveyard humor, so I thought the shirt was funny and Ive had plenty of people dig it.

this thread is a perfect example of how racism is so effective. to a white person this shirt isn't triggering, to a Black person the likelihood is much higher of it being a triggering image, when Black people complain about it, white people will reassure them that they're seeing something that's not there in spite of your brain computer telling you what you're seeing.

All I can say to Black people who are offended by this or anything else white people claim you're overreacting to especially when it's something that's very evident to you, simply ignore them, don't even engage them in an argument about it and chalk it up to a difference of opinion, cacs intentionally design shyt like this to mentally exhaust Black people, and THEN blame the Black person for making a big deal out of it.

this is why the quote in my sig is very important.
