There are an infinite amount of problems with this logic -
Playing at a high level does NOT equal one’s ability to analyze the game, much less be objective about it. Just because you make the league it doesn’t make you some omniscient, non-partisan mediator of the game. Because truth be told, one of the biggest determining factors in making the NBA is having an unbridled sense of confidence, where you aren’t restricted by what’s realistic. For that very reason, we know that athletes are less likely going to be objective because they wouldn’t be where they’re at if they were.
It’s why you have all these old heads so desperate to put their respective era above every other because it all stems from the belief/confidence they have in themselves and what they’ve achieved.
Furthermore, NBA players are human at the end in the day. They’re going to contradict themselves, they’re going to change their minds depending on the day and they’re going to be stubborn and not budge on their position even when their views don’t match up with reality.
Most importantly, you’re going to have a grand spectrum of opinions, where one player is at one end and another player is right at the other, on any particular matter. For that simple reason, you can’t take a player’s word as gospel because there’ll be another player who directly opposes them.
Watch the games and think for yourself.
