To be honest, I doubt we'll ever see another player on the level of Kobe/lebron/mj

i don't understand why casual fans think basketball players get progressively better with each generation.
they don't. there is really only two factors that affect the level of talent.

1. Exposure - back in the day basketball was a new sport so you didn't that many people with an interest in it. Nor did you have kids grow playing it and studying other players.
but thats done with now. basketball is international and people have been groomed from birth for the last 20 years. it's not gonna advance any futher on that plane.

2. Medicine - this is more important today. with advances in science athletes are in better shape than ever and stay healthy longer. thus they can prolong their primes better than previous generations.
but this has a limit too. at some point athletes will have reached the pininacle of human physical perfection. nobody is gonna be superhuman and start flying forreal.
basketball players are more athletic now than they were in the 80s and 90s but that doesn't really affect skill. Ewing would shyt all over Dwight and dwight can easily jump higher and run faster.

but realistically while this current generation is more physically gifted than ever they are probably one of the worst all time in terms of skill and talent. I actually see basketball getting progessively worse as we begin to rely more and more on physical dominance than skill. How many big men nowadays can average 25 ppg 10 rpg? 2, 3? How many Shooting Guards outside of kobe can actually lead the league in scoring 1, 2? How many point guards in current erahave lead their team to finals? 0.

Kobe is easily the closest player to MJ ever it's like a bridge that lasted 30 years watching both of them play.Lebron is a physical beast but skills and mentality wise he don't match up to Mike and Kobe he's the best athlete the nba ever saw

I kinda agree and disagree with your "skill" assessment. Yes Lebron is the best athlete ever but dude can flat out fukking ball. But this is the thing about comparing GREATS. by in large they all can do the same fukking thing. What can Lebron do that Kobe or Michael couldn't and vice versa. People will say rebounding. But...eh....dude gets a lot of uncontested rebounds he's not fukking going in and mixing it up on some Rodman steeze. And for all the hype of Lebron being a Triple double machine He's 29 Triple Doubles behind Larry Bird. and SEVENTY FIVE behind Jason Kidd.

I cringe every time I hear SC try to point out bullshyt statistics to make Great players seem greater. And that's not a knock on Lebron I think that's just the sign of the times..

But every time I hear something like Player XYZ is the 13th fastest player to....I tune out WHO GIVES A shyt.

When I say skills I'm talkin about the mid range jumper, the post game, the footwork.Lebron don't measure up to mj and kobe in any of those categories.Of course he can ball without a doubt his court vision/awareness,passing skills, defense, efficiency, scoring and rebounding + his athletic ability and size is why he's the best player in the league and one of the all time greats.

The spurs would of NEVER defended Mike or Kobe the way they defended lebron in the '13 finals or they woulda cooked for 35-40 a night.
