To be honest, I doubt we'll ever see another player on the level of Kobe/lebron/mj

What does AAU have to do with it

Aau has everything to do with why you will not see another crop of players past this class.
Plus the degradation of innercity and innercity scholastic sports leading you somewhere.
Aau is the process of eliminating the impoverished youth from having a way out.

Aau will be the death of high quality basketball.

I agree with OP, LeBron has the advantage of having come in the L when it wasn't as pu$$y as it is today too, I think that's what REALLY will stop a MJ/Kobe/Bron type player (not "talent", "player") from emerging. For as much as I hate on Bron for sometimes being passive/flopping, we ALL know that he can turn it on when he wants (which is precisely why I hate it when he doesn't).

I was thinking about it when considering the future FAs, what is sure imo is that that "next" player is not in the league now. Durant isn't on that level. I think Rose (and Westbrook if he gets his mind right) are close, but as PGs it's kind of different.

We will see other players on that level, you can bet on it. The funny thing is that many of the same people that have grown tired of hearing about Mike will likely make future genaration tired of hearing about Kobe and Lebron and won't allow those future players to be judged on their own merits. And the cycle continues...:wow:

how is all-defensive selections not a metric? if anything it is the best metric since its voted by coaches who actually watch more tape on players and teams than you internet clowns

or are you one of those stat nerds that think there is some stat out there that encompasses defensive impact :stopitslime:

I don't think the coaches and players actually watch extensive tape before they decide who to vote for, they go off reputation. And no, but there are a lot of different stats that try to quantify defensive impact, and if you put them all together you can get a decent idea of who is and isn't a good defender. There are ZERO that even suggest that Kobe was a good defender. You can't say that about anybody else with the reputation of being a good defender.

Based on what?
Kobe was a better shooter and scorer by a large margin, as well as better defender.

You think Magic could beat kobe in a one on one?

Magic's passing ability had a much larger offensive impact than Kobe's scoring. What kind of bullshyt analysis is this. "You think Magic could beat kobe in one on one" :skip:

Magic also shat on Kobe from an efficiency standpoint while still throwing up 20 points a game but nah let's ignore that.

in this instance, I am not concerned enough to worry about hypothetical.
Let alone , one-on-one, either?

What about the facts,...
The facts are magic shot 52% his whole career.
Which means magic was the better shooter.
Which kills your Stan based statements off top,..
which are already,..
Without further investigation, halfway incorrect.
Which means everything else about what you asked me must be as off brand.

Did Kobe win a title as a rookie,...no.
Was Kobe anywhere near the leader and the real greatest laker than magic,...
Answer, NO.

Did KOBE create the national boom to watch basketball?
no.
Magic did,...

Kobe is in nowhere shape or form the greatest laker.
The greatest laker is magic, period.
