dont know if im young enough for this thread, but im bout to be 30. parents are in their early 50s, so they were coming out of high school around the time when rap started blowing up on wax.
both of my parents are serious music heads. when it comes to hip-hop, my mom was always more serious with it. she even dj'ed and sorta dabbled in rapping a bit. really one of my uncles was the real rapper tho. but yea, shes still a fan to this day. still putting me up on stuff.

her vhs tapes are what got me HOOKED darn near 3 decades ago.
my dad was probably more casual with it. he pretty much stopped following hip-hop like that after the mid-80s. my first tapes were his cassette mixes of dubbed album cuts. i guess he didnt want them anymore, so he just let me have em. alot of mid-80s stuff. mostly run dmc & ll cool j. i was probably like 4 years old. his favorite rappers tho, are the furious five. he still has his picks to this day, well, not this current era. last rappers i saw him at least pay some attention to was the diplomat movement.
man i had to be the only kid in kindergarten with a lil cassette collection and full access to my parents' Atari and vinyls.

atari was the hottest video game system ever at one point, for you youngns that might not know.
but yea; hip-hop, r&b, soul, funk, doo-wop, i was into it all because of them.
Yes and still do. My mom's is more into the newer shyt than I am.
haha.
