Construction and home reno jobs first comes to mind. What other work would suffice in a ground-up scenario?

The city of Detroit is auctioning houses at this website: Building Detroit

The houses start at $1000. They have to be brought up to code in 180 days, and if you are not a Michigan resident, you have to live in the property after fixing it.

Detroit is 83% black, so this is the perfect opportunity to own property and live in a majority black city where practicing "group economics" is easier. Imagine a city full of Coli dudes making six figures working in IT with certs out the ass. :wow:

What about the back taxes? Refurbs??

I saw this beautiful house downtown a couple of blocks from the fisher theatre. The auction isn't until this time next month, but I'm looking to get in.

Hell you can basically get those houses redone with a low interest home improvement loan. Will probably run any where from 50-80k but this is how the hipsters do it. Get in on the ground level. While Detroit has some messed up ghettoes, the downtown area is fukking dope as hell and it's going to be the new silicon valley in a decade.

2 things about buying property in slums

- usually lots of back-taxes unless they get waived
- say goodbye to your siding, pipes, tools or any construction material you got laying around unless you've got eyes on the property 24/7, fiends are quick

it's really hard to rehab poor neighborhoods unless its done as a community effort
